WEEKEND RECAP: Baptiste Chassagne Secures a Magnificent 4th Place Finish

The 90km du Mont-Blanc is notorious for its punishing alpine climbs, technical descents, and often relentless summer heat. This year was no exception, throwing a scorching day at the runners. Defying the elements and a world-class field, Baptiste Chassagne delivered a stellar performance to claim an incredible 4th place finish.

Described by Baptiste as one of his best-executed fueling races to date, his day was defined by rock-solid consistency, stable energy from start to finish, and masterful management of his digestive system under high intensity.

The Strategy of Performance: Baptiste's Chamonix Protocol

To sustain a relentless pace through the grueling elevation and suffocating heat, Baptiste worked a highly effective protocol that relied heavily on liquid energy and refreshing, high-sodium profiles to keep his gut running perfectly.

  • The Liquid Energy Base: In the heavy heat, Baptiste turned almost exclusively toBOOST™ Drink Mix formulas in his flasks, adding extra sodium to combat massive sweat losses. He strategically utilizedBOOST™ Drink Mix Grenadine to keep his tastebuds stimulated and energy high.

  • The Refreshing Flavour Shield: For solid-style fuel, he heavily leaned onBOOST™ Gel Salted Lemon andBOOST™ Gel Ice Mint. These specific flavor profiles proved to be game-changers, offering a cooling sensation and essential sodium to prevent cramping.

  • The Low-Fiber Foundation: His success was built days before the start. Starting three days out, Baptiste followed a strict low-fiber protocol focused on pasta, rice, cooked green beans, sardines, and eggs, ensuring his gut was completely clean and light for race day.

Adapting on the Fly to Palate Fatigue

Even on a near-perfect day, racing at high intensity for hours will inevitably test the stomach. Around the 3-to-4-hour mark, Baptiste experienced a common mid-race floating sensation where slight discomfort and sugar fatigue began to creep in.

Instead of forcing fuel and risking a total shutdown, he showed true composure. He adapted instantly on the trails by temporarily backing off his carbohydrate intake. He focused on drinking pure water to flush and reset his stomach, allowing his system to empty before seamlessly ramping back up to his original fueling plan. This quick, intelligent pivot completely eliminated GI distress and carried him strongly to the line in Chamonix.
